| Pauline Thomas' résuméPauline Thomas is 22. Her sign is Aquarius, and her native element is water. You may object that this applies to most of us but she has remained amphibious ever since she was born, she can’t be kept away from water for any significant period of time…if she was, she would turn crazy, reckless.. Her great-grand-father (mother’s side) is said to have performed in l’Arroseur arrosé… he happened to be Louis Lumière’s gardener. Her father, a photographer, devotes most of his free time to elaborate fabric -in- water shots. He’s the guilty one, he inoculated her with Art-disease by making her his assistant as soon as she was old enough to climb on a chair and drown her toys by numbers in the silver image bath. After an MA degree in art and literature, she took a sabbatical year at the age of 20, and lived by the shore of a lake, swimming everyday and in all seasons. In 1999, she eventually agreed on landing again and joined the Plastic Arts University of Paris. In 2002, she competed for l’Ecole des Gobelins and was selected by the department in charge of multimedia creativity . She is due to achieve a master degree in this field, in 2004. Simultaneously, she has been hired part-time by a Paris gallery, Laurent Herschritt, to carry out research on ancient photography with a view to prepare auctions in Hôtel Drouot, as well as several thematic photo- shows. Photography has got only one rival in her heart and mind : music, to which she devotes an equal share of her time and efforts. Her favorite composer is Debussy « because he invented atonic music, which flows like water », her favorite piece from Debussy : « Images » Her father’s comment : « I am mostly interested in what happens under water. Pauline prefers the tension of a liquid surface. If she was given the choice, she would, rather than swim, walk on water ». |
